Identification for the Horizons Program:
A two phase, multi-criteria system of identification is the basis of admission to the Horizons Program.
Phase 1:
During the school year, a test of cognitive abilities will be administered to ALL students in grades 2, 3, and 4. Only those students meeting a score of 124 or higher on the test of cognitive abilities will be notified with a mailed letter and be asked to move on to Phase 2 of the testing process.
Phase 2:
In the second phase of screening, students are evaluated on the following:
1. Gifted Screening Assessment
2. Standardized Mathematics Concepts Assessment
3. Standardized Reading Comprehension Assessment
4. Behavioral Characteristics Scale (completed by classroom teacher)
Those students that meet a predetermined combined score from Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be admitted to the Horizons program. (Please click the link below to view the Matrix that is used to evaluate student test scores).
